Jack’s Answers to Candidate Questionnaires

All candidates receive questionnaires from various organizations asking for answers to questions of interest to their members or audience. Many of these questions require detailed answers, most in the hope of better-informing their members or their readers about where a candidate stands on the issues. Questions and Answers

When is Cary’s next election? May 17, 2022. The election originally scheduled for October 5, 2021, then rescheduled by the court for March 8, 2022, has now been delayed until May. The state’s Supreme Court ordered this delay because of challenges to the state's new congressional and legislative district maps. So, while this redistricting does not affect Cary's council districts, the court order delayed all upcoming elections and primaries in North Carolina until May 17.

Why did you change your Party registration to Unaffiliated? I worry that hyper-partisan behavior is spreading like a poisonous weed. Its negative influence led me to return to being Unaffiliated several years ago. I invite you to read my letter that more fully expresses my thoughts and concerns.

What is Mr. Smith's stand on rezoning the South Hills shopping area for a sports stadium? I know of no plans for stand alone sports stadium and if one was proposed it would need to protect adjacent residential neighborhoods, have significant buffering and demonstrate traffic issues would not affect the area. I support responsible development that enhances the quality of life of our citizens and with the South Hills Mall being purchased by an investor with plans for a major upgrade to this location, I welcome and encourage the Town to look into partnerships that benefit our citizens.

The Town is investigating where to place its voter-approved, multi-use community recreation and sports center. In my opinion, this area would be ideal. The concept of this center includes consideration of an 'e-sports' activity component. To date, all the details are conceptional and nothing has been brought forward to Council for consideration. When something comes forward, rest assured, it will go through significant public review.
